Adipurush Movie Review Rating: 2 Stars

Star Cast: Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh, Kriti Sanon, Devdatta Nage, Vatsal Sheth

Director: Om Raut

What’s Good: It is based on the epic story of ‘Ramayana’

What’s Bad: Despite being based on ‘Ramayana,’ the film fails to deliver a satisfying interpretation.

Loo Break: It’s 179 minutes and you might have too many drinks to force yourself to pee & also because the movie is #NotMyRamayana. Additionally, the movie may not resonate with those who prefer a different depiction of the Ramayana.

Watch or Not?: I would not recommend it to anyone. Even if you’re not aware of the story, watch Doordarshan’s 1978’s version or the Indo-Japanese take in 1992’s Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama (Way way better than whatever this was)

Language: Hindi

Available On: Theatrical release

Runtime: 179 Minutes

Adipurush starts with a quick recap of the pre-Vanvas phase of Lord Ram’s life. We see how he is married to Sita and how they live happily in Ayodhya. However, their happiness is short-lived when Lankesh, the king of Lanka, abducts Sita. Ram, along with his brother Lakshman and his friend Sugriva, sets out to rescue Sita and defeat Lankesh.

Adipurush Movie Review: Script Analysis

The script for Adipurush is a mess. It is full of plot holes, inconsistencies, and underdeveloped characters. The dialogue is also cringeworthy at times.

The film’s biggest problem is its attempt to modernize the Ramayana. The filmmakers have tried to make the story more relatable to modern audiences by adding in elements of romance, action, and comedy. However, this has backfired, and the film has ended up feeling like a disjointed mess.

The characters in Adipurush are also underdeveloped. Adipurush himself is a one-dimensional character who is only motivated by his desire to protect Sita. Sita is also underdeveloped, and she spends most of the film being rescued by Adipurush. Ravana is the only character who is given any depth, but even he is not fully developed.

The dialogue in Adipurush is also cringeworthy at times. There are several scenes where the characters deliver long speeches that are full of exposition and clichés. These scenes are incredibly boring and they do nothing to advance the plot.

Adipurush Movie Review: VFX

The VFX in Adipurush are also a major problem. The film is full of CGI that looks fake and cartoonish. The action sequences are particularly bad, and they look like they were made for a video game.

The only time the VFX look good is during the film’s opening sequence, which is a flashback to Adipurush’s childhood. However, once the film moves into the present day, the VFX quickly become a distraction.

Adipurush Movie Review: Acting

The acting in Adipurush is the only saving grace. Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan both give good performances, but they are not enough to save the film.

Prabhas is charismatic as Adipurush, but he is not given much to do. He spends most of the film fighting and delivering exposition. Saif Ali Khan is good as Ravana, but he is not given enough screen time.

Kriti Sanon is also good as Sita, but she is not given much to do either. She spends most of the film being rescued by Adipurush.

Adipurush Movie Review: Direction

Om Raut’s direction in Adipurush is a mixed bag. On the one hand, he does a good job of creating grand visuals and staging epic battle scenes. The film’s opening sequence, which is a flashback to Adipurush’s childhood, is particularly well-directed.

On the other hand, Raut’s pacing is often off, and he struggles to balance the film’s many characters and subplots. The film also suffers from some tonal inconsistencies, as it tries to be both a serious epic and a lighthearted action film.

Overall, Raut’s direction in Adipurush is competent, but it is not without its flaws.

Adipurush Movie Review: Music

The music in Adipurush is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and it is one of the film’s strongest elements. The songs are catchy and well-produced, and they help to create a sense of spectacle and grandeur.

The film’s title track, “Adipurush,” is particularly memorable, and it sets the tone for the film perfectly. The song is a powerful anthem that celebrates the strength and courage of Adipurush.

Overall, the music in Adipurush is a major highlight. It is well-composed, catchy, and helps to create a sense of spectacle and grandeur.

Adipurush Movie Review: The Last Word

In Last Word, Adipurush is a disappointing film. It is a waste of time and money, and I would not recommend it to anyone. The film’s biggest problems are its messy script, underdeveloped characters, and poor VFX. The only saving grace is the acting, but even that is not enough to save the film.
