About Shaakuntalam
Shaakuntalam is an Indian Telugu-language mythological drama film directed and written by Gunasekhar. The film is based on Kalidasa’s famous play, Abhignyana Shakuntalam and features Samantha as Shakuntala and Dev Mohan as Dushyanta, the king of the Puru dynasty. Along with them, the movie also stars Mohan Babu, Jisshu Sengupta, Madhoo, Gautami, Aditi Balan, and Ananya Nagalla in supporting roles. With a budget of 80 crore, the movie narrates the love story of King Dushyant and Shakuntala, the daughter of sage Vishwamitra and nymph Menaka. The plot revolves around how destiny reunites the two lovers after the king forgets about Shakuntala due to a sage’s curse. The film is theatrically released on 14 April 2023.
