According to reports in the media, there are talks of actor Varun Dhawan teaming up with South superstar Ravi Teja for the Hindi remake of the Tamil film ‘Maanaadu’. The film, which was released in 2021, was a huge success and received critical acclaim. The remake will reportedly be made in both Hindi and Telugu, with Ravi Teja playing the antagonist, a role originally played by Silambarasan. There has been no official confirmation from the makers of the film yet.
The original film ‘Maanaadu’ is a political thriller that revolves around an NRI businessman and a police officer who are trapped in a time loop on the day of a public conference of the chief minister. Both of them are forced to relive the same day again and again. The film, directed and written by Venkat Prabhu, starred Silambarasan, S. J. Suryah and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead roles.
Ravi Teja, who has gained popularity in North India with his successful films, will reportedly make his Bollywood debut with this film. Varun Dhawan, who is known for his versatility and acting skills, is said to have been approached for the lead role in the film. However, the makers of the film are reportedly working on adapting the script to cater to the sensibilities of Hindi and Telugu audiences.
If the reports are true, it will be interesting to see the two actors come together on screen for the first time. Ravi Teja has a huge fan base in the Hindi belt and his film ‘Kick’ was also remade in Hindi by Salman Khan, which went on to become a blockbuster. Varun Dhawan, on the other hand, has proven his mettle as an actor with films like ‘Badlapur’, ‘October’, ‘Sui Dhaaga’ and ‘Judwaa 2’, among others.
The remake of ‘Maanaadu’ is expected to be mounted on a much larger scale than the original. The makers of the film are reportedly confident of repeating the success of the original in Hindi as well. However, given the mixed response to recent remakes like ‘Vikram Vedha’ and ‘Jersey’, the success of the film remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Ravi Teja is currently enjoying the success of his recent releases, including ‘Dhamaka’ and ‘Waltair Veerayya’. His latest movie ‘Ravanasura’ is also doing well at the box office. Varun Dhawan, on the other hand, is busy shooting for the Indian installment of ‘Citadel’ and is awaiting the release of ‘Bawaal’ co-starring Janhvi Kapoor.
