Samantha’s Shaakuntalam cancels planned premieres after a lukewarm audience response and will now release directly on Friday in multiple languages.
The much-anticipated mythological drama film Shaakuntalam, starring Samantha in the lead role, has been making headlines for a while now. With a budget of 80 crores, the film is based on Kalidasa’s popular Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shakuntalam and is all set to release on April 14th in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
The film’s promotional content had not created the expected buzz around the film, and as a result, the team had planned special premieres for the industry and media circles on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday night to generate hype. However, the response from the audience on Monday premieres was not up to the mark, and the reports were below par, leading the team to cancel all the early premiere plans.
The team did not want to take any risk and has now decided to release Shaakuntalam directly on Friday. Presented by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations together with Gunaa Team works and produced by Neelima Guna, the film is directed by Gunasekhar.
The film features Dev Mohan in the role of King Dushyant, while Allu Arjun’s daughter Allu Arha appeared as Prince Bharata. Aditi Balan, Prakash Raj, Gauthami, Madhoo, Sachin Khedekar, and Ananya Nagalla will be seen in crucial roles. Mani Sharma has composed the tunes for this film.
Despite the setback, fans of Samantha and lovers of mythological dramas are eagerly waiting for the release of Shaakuntalam, and it remains to be seen how the film performs at the box office.
