Zwigato Box Office Collection Day 1: Kapil Sharma’s film had a lackluster opening at the box office, with only Rs 42 lakhs earned on its first day.
Kapil Sharma’s latest film, Zwigato, released in theaters on Friday, reportedly struggled to cross the Rs 50 Lakhs mark at the box office. According to Box Office Report, the film earned approximately Rs 42 Lakhs on its first day.
Set in Odisha, the film follows the story of Manas, played by Kapil Sharma, who becomes a food delivery man after losing his job at a factory. With a family of five to support, including his wife Pratima (played by Shahana Goswami) and his ailing mother, the film sheds light on the social and economic issues faced by the working class.
Zwigato was released alongside two Hindi films – Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, and Kabzaa. The film is also facing tough competition from the recently released Tu Jhoothi Mai Makkaar, which hit the screens on March 8.
According to Taran Adarsh, a film trade analyst, Kapil Sharma’s latest film Zwigato had a lackluster opening at the box office, with only Rs 42 lakhs earned on its first day. This number is even lower than Sharma’s previous film Firangi, which collected Rs 1.85 crore. Despite receiving positive reviews, Zwigato has failed to attract audiences and recorded poor collections at the box office.
Trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Released at limited screens [409] and shows, #Zwigato puts up a dull score on Day 1… The word of mouth is positive, but it needs to convert into footfalls over the weekend… Fri ₹ 42 lacs. #India biz.”

Kapil Sharma, who rose to fame with Comedy Nights with Kapil, made his acting debut with Kis Kisko Pyaar Karun, followed by Firangi. After a hiatus, he returns to the silver screen with Nandita Das’ Zwigato. However, the controversial critic, Kamaal Rashid Khan (KRK), has been criticizing Kapil and the makers since the film’s announcement. Despite positive reviews from critics, the movie, which released on March 17, is yet to win the hearts of the audience.
Earlier, KRK posted a tweet claiming that 90% of the shows of Kapil Sharma’s film, ‘Zwigato’, had been cancelled due to poor box office performance. This decision was allegedly made after the movie failed to draw in a substantial audience.
KRK Tweeted on Twitter, “Kapil Sharma starer Film #SharamKaro has got earth shattering opening of 1-3%. While 90% shows are cancelled because of no audience. Producers of the film fully deserve this, who tried to make a joker film star.”
